Philip is a partner in our Employment Team who finds commercial solutions to employment related problems always adopting a pragmatic and practical approach.

As a highly experienced employment specialist covering the full spectrum of employment law advice and support, Philip is commended for his strategic approach to employment matters, taking particular care to consider the human aspect of human resources, whilst keeping the commercial objectives of his clients front and centre.

As a seasoned employment tribunal advocate with an enviable track record of successful defences in the employment tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal, clients describe him as “very decisive, straightforward to deal with, and gives good advice”. He doesn’t sit on the fence with his legal opinions – he has been described by clients as “that rare breed: a pragmatic lawyer who gives advice rather than simply laying out a range of options”

Philip is a trusted adviser across a broad range of sectors including retail, hospitality/food and drink, education, logistics and warehousing, manufacturing, and charities/third sector. He regularly provides strategic advice on large corporate planning and re-structuring exercises as well as business protection work, which includes drafting restrictive covenants and obtaining and defending High Court Injunctions.

Philip’s recent successes include:

  • Successful defence of multi-day race discrimination case in the Watford Employment Tribunal.
  • Appearing in the EAT on behalf of the employer in the successful defence of an appeal in Miah v Axis Security Services Ltd UKEAT/0290/17/LA, EAT
  • Achieving a headcount reduction of 25% in a workforce of nearly 300 within a two-month window with minimal business interruption and no claims.
  • Obtaining a maximum costs award against an unsuccessful claimant in an unfair dismissal claim.
  • Advising a dismissed director on a strategy which resulted in the doubling of the settlement offer despite the original offer being already £200,000 above the statutory maximum.
