Yorkshire Law Firm Gordons to raise £20,000 for new annual charity partner Age UK Bradford District
Tuesday 3rd December 2019
Yorkshire law firm Gordons has named the Bradford district of Age UK, the nation’s leading charity working with older people, as its charity partner for the next 12 months.
The firm, which was founded in Bradford and also has an office in Leeds, aims to raise £20,000 in donations and fundraising. This will enable Age UK Bradford District, an independent member of the charity’s national network, to create an area impact team to support an additional 750 older people in the district.
Age UK Bradford District has been helping people in the area for more than 25 years. It has 40 dedicated staff and more than 300 volunteers helping deliver services to the whole of the Bradford Metropolitan District including Bingley, Keighley, Ilkley and Shipley as well as surrounding villages and rural areas.
Fundraising has already begun. Last month, Gordons raised more than £4,000 when the firm entered the largest corporate team in the history of Age UK’s Abbey Dash. In total, 60 Gordons’ people took part in the 10k race from Leeds city centre to Kirkstall Abbey and back.
Gordons’ annual construction quiz and auction, which sees clients from the construction industry competing against each other, raised £3,000 earlier this month. In October, a ‘Rollapluza’ cycling event on static bikes also raised £800.
Commenting on the partnership, Age UK Bradford District’s director of income generation, Chris Alexander, said: “Our close involvement with Gordons over the next 12 months will positively impact the lives of many older people throughout Bradford and its surrounding areas.
“We are excited by further help and support they are going to provide us with, as the firm has a demonstrable track record of getting deeply involved with its charity partner.”
Each year, Gordons’ people select a charity to benefit from fundraising and volunteering activities. Over the past eight years, the firm has raised more than £160,000 for its chosen charities, including homelessness charity Centrepoint Bradford, national children’s charity KidsOut, Willow Young Carers Service, PhysCap and The Friends of Alfie Martin.
Gordons partner, Sarah Ratcliffe, added: “Age UK Bradford District’s work is invaluable for the older people it supports. Gordons was founded in Bradford, so to make a difference throughout the city and beyond, where many of our people and clients are based, is important to us.”
