Monday 21st March 2011
Law firm Gordons has advised the management of Emerald Group Publishing – the world’s leading publisher of business and management research – on its acquisition of publisher Pier Professional.
Emerald, headquartered in Bingley but with offices across the globe, publishes over 250 journal titles spanning a variety of subjects, including business and management, library and information studies, engineering, sociology and education. The acquisition of Pier Professional will see Emerald expand its presence in the health and social care field with the addition of 23 titles to its extensive portfolio, covering mental health and well-being, criminal justice and care, forensic health and health sociology.
Gordons’ corporate partner Tim Ratcliffe advised Emerald’s management team on the acquisition after being instructed by Vicky Williams, business development director at Emerald.
Commenting on the acquisition, Vicky said: “This acquisition was crucial for the continued growth of Emerald and the service provided by the Gordons team was invaluable in the attainment of Pier Professional.
“We now have a great opportunity to expand the reach of Emerald and develop a fuller presence in the health and social care field. This acquisition is an important step in forging stronger links with both researchers and practitioners in these areas.”
Founded in 1967, Emerald Group Publishing has become the world’s leading scholarly publisher of journals and books in business and management with a strong and growing presence in disciplines including library and information studies, social sciences, engineering, and education.
Tim said: “This is a significant acquisition for Emerald as it provides the opportunity for further growth outside of its core activity of business academic titles. With a strong management team and a clear vision, the company is well positioned to continue to expand its offering.”
