UK Digital Pound

The Bank of England (BoE) is considering introducing a ‘digital pound’. It would be issued directly by BoE and it would always have the same value as a Sterling banknote. The Government has committed to introducing primary legislation before Parliament before a digital pound would be launched. BoE have said in the meantime they’ll design and test proof of concepts. No decisions will be made until 2025 at the earliest until the design phase draws to a close.
