Extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging waste

A new extended producer responsibility regime, requiring the producer to pay the full net cost of managing its products at end of life, was scheduled to be introduced for packaging waste in 2024 having been initially delayed from 2023.  This has been delayed further until October 2025.  Packaging waste data reporting regulations were introduced in 2023 in England, Scotland and Wales. Those packaging producers required to report their ‘nation data’ will need to report that data by 1 December 2024.  The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations are also expected to be introduced later this year.
