(UK) Review of the Computer Misuse Act 1990
Tuesday 7th May 2024
The Home Office published its review in November 2023, in which it made three proposals:
- a new power for law enforcement agencies which will allow them to seize domain names and IP addresses in the event of non-compliance;
- a new power to enable law enforcement agencies to preserve but not seize data which may be required for evidence in an investigation; and
- a new power that would criminalise possessing or using data obtained through the Computer Misuse Act.
The Home Office is yet to provide a timeline of further steps and development
